eOutage Alert

UW Windows Live password changes deny user access

Wednesday 10/31/12 at 06:26 PM

UW Windows Live fix rolling out tonight

We are in the process of implementing a fix from Microsoft which should return Windows Live to normal operation. The fix itself could take 8-12 hours to run, so we expect Windows Live to be operating normally by tomorrow morning. Once Windows Live is fully operational again, anyone denied access over the past few days will need to change their UW Windows Live password using their UW netID manage page before attempting a new login to a new URL: http://portal.microsoftonline.com

Description of Outage Symptoms

10/26/12 - 10/31/12: All password changes are failing for UW Windows Live users. In addition, some accounts are reporting an incorrect login despite having been functional for part of last week. The login problems do not affect all UW Windows Live accounts; many work correctly. These symptoms should start to disappear as we roll out the fix.

An update will be sent when we are confident the service is fully operational.

Please contact help@uw.edu if you have any questions.

The status of UW Windows Live remains unchanged.  All password changes currently fail for UW Windows Live users. In addition, some accounts are reporting an incorrect login despite having been functional for part of last week. The login problems do not affect all UW Windows Live accounts; many work correctly. However there may be some service interruptions for the working accounts during the repairs.

Microsoft has been working on this problem since Friday, but they do not have an estimate for when UW Windows Live will be fully operational again. UW-IT is working closely with Microsoft to provide the information needed to solve this issue and we are hopeful that this will be resolved in the next few days.

We will post updates to this announcement as we receive more information.  In addition to the eOutage page, this announcement is mirrored on our UW Windows Live and Live Transition pages:
